What got you out running/walking for the first time?

I started running a little more than 30 years ago for health. My father would take my brother and me to the track at Prescott Jr. High and we ran laps which turned into miles. Eventually, I ran around the neighborhood because all those loops were driving me crazy.

What’s a song that helps pick up your pace?

I don’t listen to music when running.

What is the race medal you are most proud of and why?

The last one I earned. I wear it all day after the race and maybe on Medal Monday. Then it gets hung up on a rack.

What is your dream race or location for a run?

Boston is the elusive race as I have never qualified. Someday, maybe.

What is your favorite trail to run?

I have not really explored trail running much so this may need to be something I do in 2024.

What’s your favorite race distance?

My favorite distance is the marathon.

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you or that you have seen on the trail?

I must be boring because I cannot think of anything funny to mention here.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not running?

Relaxing with my dogs and enjoying my yard.

Who are your running heroes? Who inspires you?

Dean Karnazes

Describe the moment you realized you were a “runner”.

A coworker asked me to run a 5K for a charity. I had never run a race and didn’t even know how far that was. I had probably only ever run 7 miles as my longest run. I ran the 5K and found out I was pretty good and even got 3rd place for my age group. That’s what kickstarted my racing life.

What are your goals?

I’m just happy to still be running. My goal is to avoid injury. I would like to someday run all 6 majors. I have run NYC and Chicago so far.

What’s your favorite beer (or other drink if you don’t drink beer)?

Coffee.
