What was the most difficult part of the course?

Running the canyons was tough. Even though it was a cool year, it was still hot. I know it could have been worse!

What was the most exciting part?
The river crossing was fun, even though it was cold. Seeing everyone at Pointed Rocks and hearing the cheers as I made my way onto the track. I was thankful I didn’t fall!

What was your lowest point and how did you push through it?
The last five miles were tough. Climbing to Robie Point was exhausting. Each step felt like a mini mountain. I also lost track of the miles, and my back was hurting. Fortunately, I didn’t really comprehend my state of leaning. I was still running happy. I guess I just stuck to our original plan – forward motion, always moving no matter how slow that might be.

Did you have any fueling or hydration surprises on the course?
Thankfully no, I enjoyed all the snacks!

Looking back, would you do anything differently?
Definitely do more(some) strength training. And yes, people told me!

Any last words?
I’m thrilled and thankful to have been able to complete the 100 miles on my first attempt. There are so many people who assisted me on this journey. The crew, my pacers, numerous running clubs, and just everyone who supported and cheered me on. I’m so happy to be part of the Western States’ history.

Final question – what’s next?
Recovery time, of course. And I’ll continue to run qualifying races to earn tickets. I’ve got some unfinished business at the Miwok 100K.
