What got you out running/walking for the first time?
I lived on the family dairy and I had to chase the cows. My Dad was too cheap to get a dog so I had to herd the cows.

What’s a song that helps pick up your pace?
Anything from the 60’s or 70’s. Winds of Change…Jefferson Starship.

What is the race medal you are most proud of and why?
Double Dipsea from 1971. It’s not a medal, it’s a patch. It’s what got me started trail running.

What is your dream race or location for a run?
Any trail that has beautiful views…hills.

What is your favorite trail to run?
Sierra mountains, coast. Well, any trail. I never have a dull moment on a trail.

What’s your favorite race distance?
All of them. Anything over 1 day sucks.

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you or that you have seen on the trail?
When Thomas (Lopes) complains that, “this sucks”…that’s funny.

What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t running?
Is there anything else…really?

Who are your running heroes? Who inspires you?
Everyone. Anyone training for a goal. Any distance.

Describe the moment you realized you were a “runner”.
When my dad kicked me in the butt and said, “Round up those cows.”

Run run run!

What’s your favorite beer?
Corona with salt and a lime.
