What got you out running/walking for the first time?
Ice Cream! In the early 80’s, while our husbands were on a training run, a friend & I would run about a mile to the store for an ice cream. We would sit on the curb, enjoy our reward & then run back. I entered a few races & soon realized I preferred to be on the sidelines cheering & taking pictures for Gary & friends. I got back into running in 2015 after hanging up my dance (tap/jazz) shoes. Gary had joined the ShadowChase training group, so I thought I’d give it a try. Gary discovered trail running & DB a few years ago. After being on the sidelines & seeing the enthusiasm & love of trails from our members, I decided I’d like to give it a try. So, last year along with my sister Sharon…we hit the trails.
What’s a song that helps pick up your pace?
If I could find a song that would help pick up my pace, I’d have it on repeat! I don’t listen to music while I run very often, but when I do, it’s country, oldies (60/70’s) & pop.
What is the race medal you are most proud of and why?
I have three from my first full year of running. I never dreamed I’d run a half marathon, let alone three in one year…Modesto Half Marathon, SF Divas Half Marathon & Peace Officer Half Marathon. Though, I’m pretty proud of my first two trail medals…Bad Bass 10k & Mt Madonna 8k.
What is your dream race or location for a run?
In my dreams I see myself being able to run and stay up with Gary in a race. Would love to be able to cross a finish line with him someday.
What is your favorite trail to run?
I’m so new to this that any trail I run is pretty special. I love running among the trees at The Forest of Nisene Marks.
What’s your favorite race distance?
Not sure favorite is the word, but I’m really proud when I finish a half marathon.
What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you or that you have seen on the trail?
Not funny ha ha, but Sukhy’s EPIC blister at Javelina last year was one for the record books!
What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t running?
Camping anywhere under the stars.
Who are your running heroes? Who inspires you?
All runners out there getting it done, but after running a few trails, I have a whole new respect for runners who kick up the dust…mainly our club members. But, my #1 hero is my husband, Gary. I’m amazed at what he has accomplished in his short trail life.
Describe the moment you realized you were a “runner”.
That hasn’t happened yet. In fact, I keep thinking the club is going to catch on & kick me out!
What are your goals?
To be able to run up a hill (better make it a small one).
What’s your favorite beer (or other drink if you don’t drink beer)?
You would think after 40 years in the beer business, that I would be a beer drinker, but I’m pretty much a teetotaler…though I wouldn’t turn down a margarita!
