What got you out running/walking for the first time?

My roommate in college was running 5 miles a day, so I started running for exercise. Took a bit before I was able to run a mile. After that, I really enjoyed running. It helped me to focus and feel more energized.

What is the race medal you are most proud of and why?

Modesto Marathon. The first year I paced the race, I was able to run next to many teen runners. I realized how fortunate I was to live in a community where people work together to provide opportunities like the marathon training program for students and where young students focused on accomplishing a challenging goal.

What is your dream race or location for a run?

Hoping to do the Swiss Alps 50k this summer and Maybe the Wyoming Range 100 miler if they have it again in 2022. I would like to run the Teton Crest Trail, do the Everest Marathon, do a run in Patagonia, etc.

What is your favorite trail to run?

Cloud’s Rest at night or the North to South Lake trip out of Bishop which is about 56 miles and goes over 3 major Sierra Passes.

What’s your favorite race distance?

50 miles as I get to sleep at night.

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you or that you have seen on the trail?

Getting hit by a train while running to camp in Peru was memorable. Funny now, but not so funny at the time. We had to run up the railroad bed to reach the part of the trail that led to camp. When the train came around the corner going 50 mph, I had to jump down at least 10 feet onto a narrow trail. The train hit my elbow as I jumped and I landed safely onto the trail which was barely wide enough to accommodate my feet.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not running? 

Eating, sleeping, traveling and to some extent working.

Who are your running heroes? Who inspires you?

Too many to count. We have many great local runners who care about helping others.

Describe the moment you realized you were a “runner”.

When I finished my first marathon.

What are your goals?

I want to travel to new running destinations.
