What got you out running/walking for the first time?

Originally I was into cycling and backpacking, but when Keli swept me off my feet I decided I better figure this running thing out or I would never see her. Then when I got going I realized I could access wilderness areas in a fraction of the time it took to hike, I was hooked.

What’s a song that helps pick up your pace?

Anything by the Grateful Dead or any bluegrass.

What is the race medal you are most proud of and why?

Not much of an organized race runner; but any medal I get while running with friends.

What is your dream race or location for a run?

I think I get most pumped to run any new trail in the woods, just exploring.

What is your favorite trail to run?

Either East Bay Regional Park or anywhere in the Sierra.

What’s your favorite race distance?

Just after exhaustion and just before puking.

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you or that you have seen on the trail?

I think the funniest moments have to revolve around the beer mile course.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not running?   

Fishing, skiing and hunting with the family.

Who are your running heroes?

Keli Turner, Mike Niemi, Jeff Rowe Swisegood, Gordy, Nile, Tim Twietmeyer, Barbara Elia and anyone else who gets out there and goes.

Who inspires you?

My kids.

Describe the moment you realized you were a “runner”.

I’m still trying.

What are your goals?

To stay healthy.

What’s your favorite beer (or other drink if you don’t drink beer)?  

Any super danky IPA.
