What got you out running/walking for the first time?

Weight loss. It was a quick and efficient way to get a workout in.

What’s a song that helps pick up your pace?

I never run with music, but a song that pumps me up is Rage Against the Machine’s Killing in the Name of.

What is the race medal you are most proud of and why?

My Rio Del Lago sub 24-hour buckle. I never thought it would be possible for me to run 100 miles let alone go sub 24 hours for the distance.

What is your dream race or location for a run?

I am going to be basic here and say western states 100 because it’s such a prestigious race and it would be awesome to say I ran it.

What is your favorite trail to run?

The Pacific Crest Trail up on Sonora Pass. I don’t get to get up there very often but I cherish every chance that I get to run up there.

What’s your favorite race distance?

Half Marathon

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you or that you have seen on the trail?

I was running up around Mt. Elizabeth outside of Twain Harte last year during deer hunting season and I was running down the trail and came across a hunter taking a poop. We just kinda waved at each other as I passed him.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not running? 

Riding bikes, swimming, and training for the Ironman triathlon. But outside of training, I enjoy coaching my kid’s little league baseball team.

Who are your running heroes? Who inspires you?

I don’t think I have any running heroes, but there are people that inspire me. My running partner Darrick Shaw is my real-life inspiration, he helps with there is no excuse. Get your workout in every day. Then I also get tons of inspiration/motivation from social media people like Cameron Hanes, David Goggins, and Jocko Willink to name a few.

Describe the moment you realized you were a “runner”.

I would say one week after I ran my first marathon. I said I would never run a marathon again after my first but then I signed up for another full one week later.

What are your goals?

To stay healthy and fit so I can continue to see how far I can push my body.

 What’s your favorite beer (or other drink if you don’t drink beer)?

I dont drink alcohol so I would say Key Lime Lacroix sparkling water.
