What got you out running/walking for the first time?
I was looking to change up my (mostly) sedentary lifestyle. My kids made fun of me because I couldn’t run around the block without stopping. So, when I was introduced to someone who ran marathons and assured me that with the help of a training group I could too, I decided to go all in.
What’s a song that helps pick up your pace?
Anything from the Foo-Fighters, but specifically “Everlong”.
What is the race medal you are most proud of and why?
Quicksilver 100k 2016. I was cautioned by a fellow runner that it was too difficult and I most likely wouldn’t finish. I did finish and I had a great time doing so. I also had an amazing crew!
What is your dream race or location for a run?
The Manaslu Mountain Trail Race in Nepal. Mostly because I would really like to visit Nepal.
What is your favorite trail to run?
I feel most at home running the Auburn trails. For some reason the 20- mile Quarry loop near Cool is one I never get bored with.
What’s your favorite race distance?
100k. It’s a good distance to push hard, but also have plenty of time to power hike when I need to (which is often).
What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you or that you have seen on the trail?
While running a portion of the Castle Peak trail near Truckee, I was schlepping behind, not feeling great. Then I get a text from Peter who is about a half mile ahead of me. It says “watch out” or something to that effect. Awhile later I come around a corner and there bouncing along in front of me in all his glory is an older gentleman wearing only socks and running shoes. I did my best to avert my eyes as I ran past him but couldn’t help wondering about his sunscreen situation. And I giggled to myself for the rest of the run.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not running?
Anything that involves being outdoors with Stella and Peter. Hanging out with my kids and the grandbabies and reading.
Who are your running heroes? Who inspires you?
There are many well known elite runners who inspire me, but I am equally inspired by anyone who decides to get out and run. It’s kind of cool to be a part of a community who chooses to participate in something that makes many others ask, “WHY?!”
Describe the moment you realized you were a “runner”.
I think the defining moment would be when I realized I was no longer terrified to use a Porta-Potty.
What are your goals?
Western States. The very slim chance of being chosen in the lottery is an incentive to run a qualifying race each year.
What’s your favorite beer (or other drink if you don’t drink beer)?
I’m really enjoying the Peach-Pear flavored LaCroix, though sometimes I mix it up and go with Tangerine.
