What got you out running/walking for the first time?

My mom

What’s a song that helps pick up your pace?

No music, that’s how you get distracted from predators like cars, dogs, snakes, or others who would do you harm.

What is the race medal you are most proud of and why?

I have all my marathon medals collected in a shadowbox on display, and the age division medals are in another box.

What is your dream race or location for a run?

I’ve traveled a lot internationally for several big races, including World Majors. I can always be talked into a vacation race.

What is your favorite trail to run?

Rolling hills, good views, and cold beers and snacks at the finish.

What’s your favorite race distance?

Half marathon! It’s still a challenge, but the training and distance don’t take over your life.

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you or that you have seen on the trail?

For many years, I went with a group of friends to Baja California, Mexico for the Rosarito to Ensenada Half Century bike ride. They would cycle and I would be the pickup truck crew, shuttling everyone and dropping supplies and gear along the route. I speak very little Spanish, and my phone plan doesn’t have international service, so it was always a surprise to see if I could figure out how to navigate those 50 miles of beach towns and toll roads solo.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not running?

Hydrating at the brewery.

Who are your running heroes? Who inspires you?

Getting to the finish line healthy, and before the beer garden closes.

Describe the moment you realized you were a “runner”.

I’ve been a runner since childhood, but had some really misguided coaching through high school. When I started running with groups in my 30s – instead of solo – then I also started training for more aggressive goals.

What are your goals?

The most important goal is to get to the finish line in one piece!

What’s your favorite beer (or other drink if you don’t drink beer)?

I like to try a lot of styles of craft beers, and I also keep a wine fridge in my home office.
