Christina Strohmeyer

What got you out running/walking for the first time?
I was chasing my three-year-old daughter and I just couldn’t keep up with her.  I started running to lose weight and get healthy.

What’s a song that helps pick up your pace?
When I need a pick-me-up during a long run I will play Fight Song (Rachel Platten), Stronger (by Kelly Clarkson), or Brave (by Sara Bareilles).  I will listen to just about anything while running, but do like songs that inspire.

What is the race medal you are most proud of and why?
Hands down, I am most proud of my AR50 medal!  That was an incredible adventure, and I am still processing the idea that we ran 50 miles (and survived).

What is your dream race or location for a run?
I think it would be fun to run the Great Wall of China marathon!  That is definitely a dream.

What is your favorite trail to run?
I really enjoy the trails at Montaña de Oro (San Luis Obispo).  That’s my favorite place to run.

What’s your favorite race distance?
I like 50ks.  They are long enough to be difficult, but short enough to be doable!

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you or that you have seen on the trail?
Oh boy.  What happens on the trail stays on the trail?  Kidding…we always have too much fun. It would be difficult to choose just one story.

What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t running?
When am I not running?!  My favorite pastimes are reading, hiking with the family, and wine or beer tasting.

Who are your running heroes? Who inspires you?
All the folks who run these amazing ultra races.  I admit to being in awe of people who can finish 50 miles in 6, 7 or 8 hours.  As for inspiration, seriously — all of Dusty Bottoms inspires me. Before DB, I didn’t know people went out and ran 31, 50 or 100 miles.

Describe the moment you realized you were a “runner”.
It took a long time for me to realize I was a runner.  I always corrected people and told them I “just jog.” However, the first time I realized I was a trail runner was at Double Dipsea three years ago.  It was my first “official” trail run and I had a euphoric sense of accomplishment that I’d never had before.

What are your goals?
I plan to run AR50 again, now that I know what to expect.  But who knows what the future holds!

What’s your favorite beer (or other drink if you don’t drink beer)?
I don’t have a favorite brand, but I am partial to IPAs, and love lots of hops.
